With a career spanning more than three decades, Brent Thor brings a rare combination of frontline Fire and EMS experience, executive leadership, technology expertise, and business development experience to Thor & Associates.

Brent began his career in the Fire/EMS industry in California in 1988, building his experience from the ground up. Over the course of his public safety career, he served in a wide range of positions, including Firefighter, Paramedic, company officer, and Fire Chief. That progression gave him firsthand experience with virtually every level of a public safety organization from responding to calls in the field and caring for patients to managing personnel, budgets, operations, technology, risk, and long-term organizational strategy.

Brent’s extensive background has provided him with a unique understanding of the challenges facing today’s Fire and EMS organizations. His experience encompasses:

As a Fire Chief, Brent experienced firsthand the challenges of making difficult decisions with limited resources while maintaining the highest possible level of service to the community. That experience continues to shape the way he approaches every consulting engagement today.

After leaving the public safety sector, Brent transitioned into the technology and business side of the industry, gaining valuable experience from some of the companies and organizations helping shape modern EMS.

He worked with ZOLL and MedaPoint, gaining extensive experience with technology solutions serving the Fire and EMS community. He later moved into the EMS revenue cycle management industry, serving as Vice President of Sales for EMS Management & Consultants.

This combination of frontline operational experience and private-sector technology and business experience gives Brent a perspective that is uncommon in the industry.

He understands the challenges because he has lived them—and he understands the technology and business solutions because he has spent years helping organizations implement them.

Brent’s commitment to improving the Fire and EMS industry extends beyond consulting. He actively contributes to the development of industry standards through his service on two National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) technical committees:

• NFPA 33/34 — Flammable and Combustible Finishes
• NFPA 1917 — Ambulance Manufacturing

Through this work, Brent participates in the development and review of standards that directly impact fire protection, emergency vehicles, safety, and the equipment used by public safety professionals.

Today, Brent brings his broad experience across Fire/EMS operations, executive leadership, technology, training, consulting, business development, and industry standards to help organizations make better decisions.
